The Ending

[After slamming the door]
NORA: [in a capricious tone] I can't believe I did that…[after a brief moment] I can't believe I did that!
[walking in any direction and seeming unperturbed by what happened]
NORA: Im free! I'm free by the puppet strings I was chained by my whole life. I can finally live my life or figure out who I am without anyone suppressing me. [thinking about her children] I know this is for the best. Helene will take care and love each of my children better then I would. [questioning herself] Am I mad? I mean I'm throwing my whole life away! No. No I'm not. That life was not a happy one. I will no longer be controlled and looked down upon. No wait my children! I can't I love them too much too leave them behind!
[Running back to her home she is about to enter to see her children , but peeks through the window to see if Torvald is there. After no sign of him she is about to open the door when she hears the kids running in.]
CHILDREN: [inside playing and laughing with the maid] Helene! Helene! Can we play hide and seek now?!
HELENE: Of course we can. [Saying with a smile and full joy] Afterwards you must take a shower so I can put you guys to bed.
CHILDREN: And mama? won't she tuck us in?
HELENE: Now listen here little ones. [saying with a broken-heart] I already told you guys your mom won't be back for a while…
CHILDREN: [Also with a broken-heart] But why?
HELENE: She must find herself. She has to be free to have adventures and earn some experience. [changing her tone] You guys are just children so you won't be able to understand it just yet. But I promise you your mom still loves you and will be with you, even if she isn't here. She still cares for your well-being. Thats why she left you guys with me! She knows I will love and care for you like she would. Now cheer up little ones for we still have a game of hide and seek awaiting us! [wiping their sweet little faces]. Now I'm going to count to ten and when I open my eyes I'm going to come and find you, and let me just say the first one I find will be the first to have to clean up!
[Nora backs away from the window]
NORA: [with tears running down her face] Well…there it is. She has already told them. [wiping her tears] now there is nothing left, but to keep moving on. I know I'll see them again.
[as she begins walking out she steps on a card.]
NORA: Huh? What's this?
[picking it up she realizes it is the card from Dr.Rank informing of his death]
NORA: [saying to herself] Just one last stop.

Act II

    In Act II, Nora begins to become desperate in getting herself out of the mess she dug herself into. Nora seems to worry a lot that once Torvald knows of what she has done he would think of her as disreputable as Krogstad.  Nora becomes so helpless with the intolerable conflict that it even led her to do things without really thinking, like flirting with Dr.Rank in order to get a huge favor of money.  Even though it may seem like she is careless she doesn't go through with it after Dr.Rank confesses his true feelings for her because she knew in her conscious that it was wrong of her to put him through that. In this act you come to see that it isn't just Torvald who seems to look or treat Nora as if she were a child. (Mrs.Linde) "Look, Nora, in a lot of things, you're still a child. Im older than you in many ways and I've had a little more experience" (Ibsen pg.184). 

   Mrs.Linde seems to play a bigger part in Nora's life in this section of the play. Mrs. Linde admits that she has some tricks up her sleeve to retrieve that letter from Krogstad back. I think Mrs. Linde sees how troubled Nora is and does everything she can do to lend a hand. When Mrs. Linde goes to talk to Krogstad it was up to Nora to keep Torvald from checking his mail. She purposely messes up her tarantella so Torvald could help her and he even says "Nora, darling, you're dancing as if your life depended of it!" (Ibsen 204).  Ironically at the end, after Mrs.Linde reveals that Krogstad would be out of town until tomorrow night, Nora reveals that she might commit suicide. I honestly think it was selfish of her to decide that because she is just thinking of an easy way out and is not thinking of anyone, not even her children that she has been avoiding. Act I Analysis

         

      After reading act one I came across many questions as well as overviews of the many characters 

that were introduced. Looking at Torvald and Nora's relationship you can see how unbalanced it is.

Torvald considers himself superior than Nora. He expects her to follow his every word and treats her as 

if she is a child. Nora is very much aware on how Torvald treats and thinks of her, but lets him continue doing it as well as playing the part because of his pride. I know this because in Act I Nora states, "Yes, Torvald, I can't do anything without you to help me" (Ibsen 178) even though that is a complete lie because Nora lied and went behind his back and borrowed the money needed for the trip to Italy…all without him. She doesn't tell him because she knows how excruciating he finds it to borrow or waste money. 

       I feel that the interaction between Krogstad and Nora will lead to unhappy outcomes for both of them. Nora borrowed money from Krogstad and squandered it in a trip to Italy for a year. Since Torvald made an advancement at the bank, Krogstad blackmails Nora into helping him keep his job. Throughout the whole first act Nora is a very dramatic person . She says that she did everything for love and is becomes very paranoid after her talk with Helmer about Krogstad and how its his mothers fault that he is like that. This makes Nora not want to be around her children. The reason why is because she says, " Corrupt my little children- poison my home? That's not true! It could never be true" (Ibsen 180). This quote form the book displays how dramatic and paranoid she is. So, what do you think will happen in the next act? Do you think Helmer and Nora's relationship with evolve for the better or worst? Will Nora's issue resolve at the end or will her life crumble before her?

Introduction

        Hello my name is Danyelle. Reflecting back on this year so far I can honestly say it was grand. The part that I really took pleasure in was reading the novel The Alchemist. It really stunned me on how much it can change your perspective or apply to your life. I am truly eager to start reading A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen.
       Henrik Ibsen, often called as the father of modern drama, was born on March 20, 1828 in Skien, Norway. As a youngster Ibsen displayed little signs that he would become a theatrical Einstein. As Ibsen matured he wrote many great pieces such as Brand and Hedda Gabler. The play A Doll's House , which was written in 1868 was one of Henrik's famous works. The play attracted great controversy and became an awakening for the feminist movement in Europe. Henrik Ibsen passed away in May 23, 1906, in Oslo, Norway.
